Seven Ways Men Fight Against God

A rabbi named Gamaliel warned the Jews not to fight against God (Acts 5:39), yet this is what many do.

  1. Some fight against God Himself. They come into this world innocent but for whatever reason they become “haters of God” (Rom. 1:30). They are in a battle they cannot win.

  2. People fight against the conscience God gave us (Rom.2:14-15). When we go against it, we are not just arguing with ourselves. We are fighting against the Creator.

  3. Many fight against God by disobeying His Word (John 12:48). This is the real world war, a conflict that began in the garden of Eden and continues to this day.

  4. Others fight against the Creator by trying to change His creation. They hate the fact that He made us male and female. Read Romans 1 to see how old this resentment is.

  5. Human beings also think they can avoid the consequences of sin. They always lose this fight. “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that will he also reap” (Gal. 6:7).

  6. Some are angry at how life has treated them and blame God. They do whatever they can to get even with life and show God they are right and He is wrong. What a bad idea (Job).

  7. People will do anything to beat death or cheat death. But death is inevitable. “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Heb. 9:27).

The leviathan was a fierce sea creature that could not be tamed. God asked Job a piercing question after Job wanted to debate Him about his sufferings. “No one is so fierce that he would dare stir him up. Who then is able to stand against Me?” (Job 41:10). If a man wouldn’t dare to challenge a leviathan, why would he pick a fight with God?
